Together with our partners, Hunting’s Technical Services and the Development Planning Unit, we manage the Department For International Development's (DFID) Natural Resources Systems Programme. This programme, part of the DFID strategy for renewable natural resources research, examines issues relevant to the livelihoods of poor people dependant upon natural resources at the following six ecotypes/systems:
- Hillsides
- Forest Agriculture interface
- Peri-urban interface
- Land water interface
- Semi Arid systems
- High potential systems
MRAG has particular responsibility for the management of the Land water interface system. The land water interface is located in regions where both aquatic and terrestrial resource systems co-exist in space and time. Two ecosystems are targeted for the commissioning of research projects relevant to DFIDs aims - coastal zones and floodplains. The Caribbean is the target region for the coastal zone (See the regional website Caribpesticides) and Bangladesh for LWI floodplains research.
