Estimation of the cost of illegal fishing in West Africa
This study was conducted as part of the preparation for the
World Bank’s West Africa Regional Fisheries Project. It had as its
primary aim a focused case study on the economic impacts of illegal
fishing activities in CSRP member states. The potential benefits from
elimination of illegal fishing were investigated through case study
fisheries in each country.
The findings, interpretations, and conclusions expressed in this paper are entirely those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the views of the World Bank Group, its Executive Directors, or the countries they represent.
Estimation of the cost of illegal fishing in West Africa-Final ReportReview of Fish Sustainability Information Schemes
This review, written by MRAG with editorial oversight from
Professor James Young at University of Stirling, was commissioned by
the Fish Sustainability Information Group (FSIG), an international
consortium representing a variety of national organisations concerned
with seafood trade headed by Seafish. It is an objective assessment of
a selection of certification schemes and recommendation lists for both
capture fisheries and aquaculture.

Assessment of turtle bycatch
In this report MRAG Ltd, in association with Lamans s.a. and
AZTI-Tecnalia, present the results of a project undertaken
for the European Commission, DG-MARE (FISH/2005/28). The project had as
its objective an evaluation of the
applicability, and an assessment of the consequences, of adopting some
technical solutions to reduce the bycatch of turtles in EU surface
longline
fisheries. The specific technical solutions to be tested were the bait
and type
of hook used in swordfish fisheries, which in previous studies have
been
shown to be effective in reducing turtle bycatch.

Global Extent of IUU Fishing
In this report MRAG Ltd and Fisheries Ecosystems Restoration
Research,
Fisheries Centre, University of British Columbia present the first
results of a project funded by the UK government (DEFRA and
DfID) to develop an international IUU monitoring network and produce
the first global estimate of IUU fishing.
