MRAG provided a Senior Tuna Management Specialist Adviser to BNF Liberia and MFMR Sierra Leone. The specific tasks undertaken during the project included:

  • Attending a regional MCS and Tuna management meeting in Monrovia, Liberia as an adviser to the governments of Liberia and Sierra Leone in establishing protocols for the management of tuna fisheries in their respective EEZs and the potential for joint provisions.

  • Prepare presentational information against items defined in the Workshop / Conference Agendas, identify lessons to be learnt for West Africa and draw conclusions

  • Work with preparatory teams in Sierra Leone and Liberia and comment on draft proposals to tuna companies for the anticipated protocols to be provided at the meeting

Assist and advise the national teams from Liberia and Sierra Leone in their discussions with the tuna companies prior to and during the meetings.
